a winter's breath

It's not complicated really.

She stomped a heart into the snow, her arms akimbo and her hair swirling about her face. Snowflakes as crisp as ice shavings floated down, winking in the subdued blue glow of the street lamp. The muted silence of the night broken only by the sounds of her boots.
I laughed.
She circled.
My breath steamed from between my cold lips into the frigid air rising in gossamer tendrils to greet the falling flakes.

She giggled.
I laughed. We shivered.

No one has ever done that for me before. I held her close to me, cold cheeks pressed together. And the snow continued to fall slowly filling in the tracks of my heart.

She gave Him her heart and He ended up cradling her soul as well. A flickering showing of her heart reflected in the crispness of the virgin snow. There is a certain amount of kindness, just as there is a certain amount of light ... We cast a shadow on something wherever we stand, and it is no good moving from place to place to save things; because the shadow follows us. Choose a place where you won't do harm--yes, choose a place where you won't do very much harm, and stand in it for all you are worth, facing the sunshine...
